Unismuh Makassar's Aquaculture Program Maintains Excellent Accreditation from BAN-PT

UNISMUH.AC.ID, MAKASSAR - The Budidaya Perairan Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar (Unismuh), has achieved a prestigious accreditation from the National Higher Education Accreditation Agency (BAN-PT). The assessment was based on a database from the university's database, which has been monitored for the past 5 years. All academic activities, teaching activities, student activities, and achievements of the aquaculture program alumni, as well as data from PT for the past 5 years, meet the 9 criteria for excellent accreditation.

This accreditation status is detailed in BAN-PT No. 8796/SK/BAN-PT/Ak.Ppj/S/XII/2025, dated December 23, 2025. This Excellent Accreditation is valid for five years, starting from October 14, 2025 to October 14, 2030. This announcement was made by the Vice Rector I of Unismuh Makassar, Prof. Andi Sukri Syamsuri, in the App Unismuh Makassar WhatsApp group, Wednesday, December 24, 2025.

"Congratulations and success to the Aquaculture Program for achieving excellent accreditation from BAN PT," said the Vice Rector for Academic and Cooperation of Unismuh Makassar.

The Head of the Aquaculture Program at Unismuh Makassar, Ir. Akmaluddin, S.Pi., M.Si., IPM, stated that this achievement is a recognition of the continuous quality academic development. "This Excellent Accreditation is a standard recognition given by BAN-PT to the Aquaculture Program of Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar," he said.

According to Akmaluddin, the Excellent status is not only an institutional achievement but also a moral responsibility for the entire academic community. "For us, this achievement is not just a recognition, but also a commitment to continuously improving the quality of education, teaching, as well as research and publication," said the Head of the Aquaculture Program.

During the accreditation process, the program faced the main challenge of fulfilling all the indicators set by BAN-PT. This challenge includes increasing the number of new students each year, meeting the target for on-time graduation (KTW), achieving a Performance Based Standard (KBS) of more than 60 percent, as well as accurate and continuous alumni data.

Akmaluddin explained that these challenges were overcome through strengthening teamwork and academic data management. He said that support from the university and faculty leadership was an important factor in ensuring that all documents and performance evidence could be met according to the standard.

From an academic perspective, the Aquaculture Program curriculum is designed to align with the needs of the industry and the development of fisheries technology, specifically in aquaculture. The program collaborates with aquaculture businesses, research institutions, and central and local government agencies.

Akmaluddin added that this collaboration involves the Ministry of Maritime and Fisheries, provincial fisheries agencies, and kabupaten/kota fisheries agencies. Through this partnership, the program periodically adjusts the curriculum to ensure that graduates have the relevant competencies to meet the needs of the working world and scientific developments.

The achievement of Excellent Accreditation opens up more opportunities for graduates of the Aquaculture Program. Graduates have the opportunity to work in the fisheries industry, research institutions, government, and aquaculture businesses that are constantly developing.

Ir. Akmaluddin emphasized that the national food security agenda also strengthens the role of the fisheries sector. He said that government policies that promote self-sufficiency in food open up greater opportunities for graduates of the Aquaculture Program to support sustainable fisheries production.

To students and prospective students, Akmaluddin encourages them to make this achievement a shared motivation. "This excellent accreditation achievement is the result of our hard work and commitment to improving the quality of research-based education," he said.

Going forward, the Aquaculture Program of Unismuh Makassar aims to strengthen research, collaborate with various stakeholders, and increase the competitiveness of graduates at the national level.
