Strengthening Food Security, Unismuh Faculty Socialization on Organic Farming

UNISMUH.AC.ID, MAKASSAR – As part of its commitment to the community, the Master of Agribusiness Postgraduate Program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar (Unismuh Makassar) dispatched a team of educators to provide education on organic farming. The event took place at the Secretariat of the Kerukunan Jaya Farmers Group, Buntusu Village, Tamalanrea District, Makassar City, on Saturday, December 24, 2022.

This educational program is an initiative by lecturers and students of the Master of Agribusiness program at Unismuh Makassar as a form of community service. Dr. Mohammad Natsir, S.P., M.P., as Head of the Program, and Dr. Jumiati, S.P., M.M., IPM., MCE, also provided guidance to the student team before the event began.

The theme of this educational event is "Production of Natural Fertilizers and Pesticides: Application of Urban Farming with the Concept of Sustainable Agriculture." Ikbal, S.P., Head of the Educational Team, emphasized that their goal is not to teach, but to share knowledge about the importance of organic farming, which is seen as a solution for sustainable agriculture, especially in urban areas.

Ikbal stated, "Organic farming is a brilliant system that not only provides for humans but also preserves the environment. This is the ideal concept for the future of Indonesian agriculture, which is healthy for consumers and maintains soil fertility."

During the event, Hikma Suci Putri Hastiti, S.P., as moderator, along with Fitri Rezki Rajuddin, S.TP, and Rifaldi Gunawan, S.P., as mentors, delivered presentations and training. Meanwhile, Nasrul, Secretary of Buntusu Village, expressed his appreciation and officially opened the event.

The educational event covered topics on sustainable agriculture by Rifaldi Gunawan, S.P., as well as the implementation of organic farming systems by Fitri Rezki Rajuddin, S.TP. The event also included a demonstration of making liquid organic fertilizer, which attracted the participants' attention.

The Chairman of the Kerukunan Jaya Farmers Group, Ir. Nawir Senni, expressed the hope that the event would be sustainable and provide tangible benefits for increasing production, economy, and social environment. The event concluded with a group photo, reflecting the strong collaboration between the educational team, village officials, and farmers group members.
