WD III Faperta Unismuh Encourages New Students to Be Active in Organizations, Create, and Develop Leadership Skills

Makassar – The Student Affairs Department is one of the key topics in the Ta’aruf event for new students of the Faculty of Agriculture at Universitas Muhammadiyah (Unismuh) Makassar for the 2026/2027 academic year. During the session, the Deputy Dean III of the Faculty of Agriculture, Ir. Muhamad Ikbal, S.Pi., M.Si., IPM, introduced various student organizations that provide a space for students to develop their potential, contribute, build networks, and hone their leadership skills.

The session, which took place at the Faculty of Agriculture, Unismuh Makassar, on Monday, September 14, 2026, was attended by 78 new students from four study programs, namely Agribusiness, Forestry, Aquaculture, and Agrotechnology.

In his presentation, Muhamad Ikbal guided the new students to get to know the student organizations and institutions within the Faculty of Agriculture. This introduction is an important part of the faculty's efforts to encourage students to not only focus on academic achievements, but also to actively develop their capabilities through organizational activities.

Some of the student organizations introduced during the session include:

1. Faculty of Agriculture Student Government (BEM), chaired by Farhan Fadlurrahman Has.
2. IMM Faperta Student Association (PIKOM IMM), chaired by Ilyas Julianto.
3. Agribusiness Student Association (HMJ Agribisnis), chaired by Diva Rizky Asyiaitun.
4. Fisheries Student Association (HMJ Perikanan), chaired by Abdulrahman Ratutoli.
5. Agrotechnology Student Association (HMJ Agroteknologi), chaired by Nur Afifa Anggreni.
6. Forestry Student Association (HMJ Kehutanan), chaired by A. Fauzan Asyiat.

Organizations as Learning Spaces Outside the Classroom

Muhamad Ikbal emphasized that students' lives are not just about the classroom. Student organizations are one of the strategic avenues for students to gain experience, work in teams, manage activities, communicate, solve problems, and develop leadership skills.

Through student organizations, students also have the opportunity to express their ideas and creativity through various activities that have a positive impact on the campus environment and the community.

Therefore, new students are encouraged to actively participate in student organizations from the beginning of their studies.

According to Muhamad Ikbal, involvement in student organizations can be a learning process that complements students' academic competencies. This experience is expected to shape students who have communication, collaboration, activity management, leadership, and adaptability skills.

“Students should not just come to campus to attend classes. Use your time as a student to learn, create, organize, and develop your abilities,” said Muhamad Ikbal during the session.

Encourage Students to Enhance the Faculty's Reputation

Furthermore, the Deputy Dean III hopes that new students can utilize the available organizations as a space to develop their potential and produce positive works.

According to him, student involvement in organizations should be directed towards productive activities that can contribute to the faculty, study program, and the community.

He also encourages students to participate in various competitions and achievement activities, both at the university, regional, national, and international levels.

The success of students in academic and non-academic fields is expected not only to be a personal pride, but also to enhance the reputation of the Faculty of Agriculture, Unismuh Makassar and its respective study program.

“We hope that new students can actively participate in organizations, create, and continue to develop their leadership skills during their time as students. Through this process, hopefully, students who can enhance the reputation of the faculty, study program, and themselves will emerge,” said Muhamad Ikbal.

Be an Active and Impactful Student

The introduction of student organizations in the Ta’aruf activity is the initial step for new students to understand the various options for developing their self in the Faculty of Agriculture.

The Faculty of Agriculture, Unismuh Makassar continues to encourage the creation of a student ecosystem that provides a space for students to learn, organize, create, excel, and build leadership.

Through active involvement in student organizations, students are expected to make the most of their studies. Not only to be students who excel academically, but also have character, leadership skills, social skills, and the courage to make a real contribution.

The Ta’aruf event is also the initial gateway for 78 new students of the Faculty of Agriculture, Unismuh Makassar to get to know various self-development spaces and determine their steps to grow as active, creative, accomplished, and impactful students.

This activity is related to the SDGs Program, especially SDG 4: Quality Education, which promotes inclusive, equitable, quality education and lifelong learning, and SDG 17: Partnership for the Goals by building partnerships with students and student organizations to achieve achievements at various levels and tiers.
