Thai University Student Trains Language for International KKN Participants at Unismuh

UNISMUH.AC.ID, MAKASSAR — The Muhammadiyah University (Unismuh) Makassar continues to intensify preparations for students who will participate in the 2nd Batch of International Community Service (KKN) program. Through the Research, Development, and Community Service Institute (LP3M), intensive training is carried out, including Thai language training, which was held via the Zoom Meeting application on Thursday, April 23, 2026.

The training was led by Hasna Dorma, a student from the Architecture Department of Unismuh Makassar, who is originally from Thailand. In addition to being a Bachelor of Science student, Hasna is also a participant in the 2nd Batch of International KKN. This online activity is attended by all participants as part of the initial preparation before departure to the service location in Narathiwat, Southern Thailand. In the training session, Hasna not only taught the language, but also introduced aspects of culture, local customs, and social ethics that students need to understand.

Participants were provided with basic vocabulary, everyday conversations, as well as an understanding of the local cultural context. Although the training took place online, it remained interactive through practice conversations, communication simulations, and pronunciation exercises.

The enthusiasm of the participants was evident throughout the activity. This preparation is expected to help students adapt and communicate effectively during their program abroad.

The Head of the Cooperation Division, Center for Business Studies and Incubation (LP3M) of Unismuh Makassar, Dr. Wildhan Burhanuddin, stated that as of now, 26 students have confirmed their participation in the program. They come from various faculties, namely the Faculty of Teaching and Education (6 people), the Faculty of Islamic Studies (6 people), the Faculty of Engineering (9 people), the Faculty of Economics and Business (3 people), and the Faculty of Agriculture (2 people).

"Registration is still open until April 30, 2026, to give other students the opportunity to join," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of LP3M Unismuh Makassar, Dr. Muh. Arief Muhsin, emphasized that language and cultural training is an important part of ensuring students are ready.

"We want to ensure that students who depart are not only academically prepared, but also have good communication and cultural adaptation skills," he said.

The 2nd Batch of International KKN program is scheduled to take place from May 31st to July 6th, 2026, in Narathiwat, Southern Thailand. This program is part of the International Community Service scheme developed by LP3M Unismuh Makassar to support the internationalization of students.

Through this training, participants are expected to be able to carry out the service program optimally and contribute to the international community.
