Unismuh Makassar Agri-Business Students Invite Southern Thai Students to Realize Clean and Healthy School

UNISMUH.AC.ID, Pattani, Southern Thailand — Muhammad Maulana Abubakar, a student from the Agribusiness Department of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Muhammadiyah (Unismuh) Makassar, conducted a community cleanup activity with students and teachers at Ban Tanyong School, Southern Thailand, on June 21, 2026. The activity was part of the 2nd Batch of the International Community Service Program, organized by LP3M Unismuh Makassar through an International Community Service scheme.

During the activity, Muhammad Maulana Abubakar was accompanied by two team members, Erwin from the Islamic Communication and Broadcasting Study Program (KPI) and Umar Al Faruq from the Islamic Religious Education Study Program (PAI), Faculty of Islamic Studies, Unismuh Makassar. Together, they collaborated with teachers and students to create a cleaner, healthier, and more comfortable school environment.

The objective of the activity was to raise awareness among students about the importance of maintaining a clean environment, as well as to instill a culture of living a clean and healthy lifestyle from a young age. In addition, the activity served as a learning opportunity to develop character through the application of values such as cooperation, responsibility, and concern for the surrounding environment.

Together with the students and teachers, the International KKN students cleaned various areas of the school, starting from the yard, classrooms, school gardens, to the surrounding environment. The atmosphere of the activity was full of enthusiasm and cooperation, reflecting the good cooperation between Indonesian students and school residents in Southern Thailand.

As an Agribusiness student, Muhammad Maulana Abubakar explained that concern for the environment is an important value that must be instilled in the younger generation as part of sustainable development.

"A clean environment will have a positive impact on health, comfort, and the quality of learning. Through this activity, we want to encourage students to be more aware of their environment and to develop healthy habits that can be applied in their daily lives," he said.

According to him, maintaining a clean school environment is a simple step that has a big impact in creating a conducive learning atmosphere and forming students who are caring for the environment.

Meanwhile, Umar Al Faruq added that maintaining cleanliness is also part of the values taught in Islam.

"Cleanliness is an important part of a Muslim's life. Through this activity, we want to instill awareness that caring for the environment is not just an individual responsibility, but also a shared responsibility as part of life in society," he said.

Similarly, Erwin said that the activity also served to strengthen the spirit of cooperation and teamwork among students.

"Simple activities like this can teach many positive values, starting from cooperation, discipline, social responsibility, to concern for the environment. We hope that this spirit can continue to grow and become a culture in the school," he said.

The Ban Tanyong School expressed appreciation for the initiative of the Unismuh Makassar students in involving students in various positive activities during the International KKN. According to the school, the activity provided valuable experience for students in building healthy and clean habits from a young age.

Muh. Ikmal Saleh, S.P., M.Si, Head of the Agribusiness Department of Unismuh Makassar, appreciated the initiative of the students in presenting a simple but impactful program for the school community.

"Agribusiness students not only learn about economic and agricultural management, but also have a responsibility to instill awareness of the importance of a healthy and sustainable environment. This activity is a concrete example of how students can contribute positively to society through international service," he said.

Dr. Ir. Hj. Andi Khaeriyah, M.Pd., IPU, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Unismuh Makassar, also expressed her appreciation for the students' involvement in various programs that support environmental education in partner schools.

"We are proud to see that students from the Faculty of Agriculture can implement environmental values in international service activities. Such programs not only benefit the community, but also form students who have social awareness, global awareness, and a commitment to sustainable development," she said.

The 2nd Batch of the International KKN Program, managed by LP3M Unismuh Makassar, was attended by 30 students from various faculties who were placed in schools in Narathiwat, Pattani, and Yala provinces, Southern Thailand. Through various education-based programs, environmental, social, and community empowerment programs, students from Unismuh Makassar have strived to provide concrete contributions and strengthen cooperation between Indonesia and Thailand.

Through the cleanup activity at Ban Tanyong School, Muhammad Maulana Abubakar and the International KKN team demonstrated that concern for the environment can start with simple steps that are carried out together. This activity is part of the effort to build a generation of young people who are concerned about the environment, responsible, and ready to create a healthier and more sustainable future.
