Two Unismuh Agribusiness Alumni Pass IPB-Germany and Universitas Brawijaya Doctoral Scholarship
UNISMUH.AC.ID, MAKASSAR — The Bachelor of Agribusiness Program at the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Muhammadiyah (Unismuh) Makassar, continues to strengthen its reputation through the achievements of its alumni. Two alumni, Erwin Arfah, S.P., and Fatahullah, S.P., have been accepted into scholarships to pursue master's and doctoral studies.
Erwin Arfah, a 2021 graduate of the Agribusiness program at Unismuh Makassar, has been accepted into the STEM Industry Strategic Scholarship for a master's degree (double degree). He will study at IPB University in the Agribusiness Science program and at the University of Göttingen, Germany, in the International Agribusiness program.
Meanwhile, Fatahullah, a 2016 graduate of the Agribusiness program at Unismuh Makassar, has been accepted into the LPDP Phase 1 2026 scholarship for a doctoral program (S3) at Universitas Brawijaya. He will focus on agricultural science with an emphasis on food security issues.
The Head of the Agribusiness Program at Unismuh Makassar, Muh. Ikmal Saleh, stated that the achievements of the two alumni are a source of joy for the academic community. According to him, Erwin and Fatahullah's success demonstrate that graduates of the Agribusiness program at Unismuh have competitiveness, both at the national and international levels.
"We are very proud. Erwin has brought Unismuh Makassar to the international level through the double degree program at IPB University and the University of Göttingen, Germany. Meanwhile, Fatahullah is strengthening his academic contributions at the national doctoral level through Universitas Brawijaya on a very important issue, namely food security," said Ikmal at the Unismuh Makassar campus, Thursday, June 25, 2026.
Ikmal believes that the success is due to the learning ecosystem that is continuously developed in the Agribusiness Program at Unismuh Makassar. The program strives to strengthen the curriculum based on industry needs, entrepreneurship, research downstreaming, and global awareness while not neglecting the needs of the community.
According to Ikmal, agribusiness today can no longer be understood solely as agricultural production activities. Agribusiness has evolved into a strategic field that connects innovation, industry, supply chains, markets, technology, and sustainability.
"Therefore, agribusiness students need to be equipped with academic skills, research capacity, social sensitivity, and the courage to seize opportunities. The achievements of Erwin and Fatahullah are proof that our alumni have the capacity recognized in competitive scholarship selection," he said.
Erwin Arfah expressed his gratitude for his acceptance into the STEM Industry Strategic Scholarship. He said that the opportunity to pursue a double degree is a great responsibility and a space to expand academic and international experience.
"Alhamdulillah, this double degree opportunity is a great responsibility. I want to learn more about agribusiness in a global perspective, especially how agricultural and industrial supply systems can be managed sustainably," said Erwin.
Erwin hopes that his studies at IPB University and the University of Göttingen will strengthen his understanding of global agribusiness. According to him, the agricultural sector needs human resources that can connect academic knowledge, innovation, industry, and community needs.
Fatahullah also expressed similar sentiments. He said that his doctoral studies at Universitas Brawijaya is an important opportunity to conduct research in the strategic agricultural sector, specifically on food security.
"Our agricultural sector faces major challenges today. Through this S3 study, I am committed to delving into adaptive food security strategies in the face of climate change and market dynamics, for the benefit of society and the university," said Fatahullah.
Ikmal hopes that the achievements of the two alumni will inspire students of the Agribusiness program at Unismuh Makassar. According to him, opportunities for further study, scholarships, research, and career development are open to diligent and disciplined students who have the courage to try.
"Erwin and Fatahullah have provided a concrete example that from this program, the doors to reputable universities at the national and global levels are open wide. From Agribusiness Unismuh to the world and national progress is not just a slogan, but an effort that we continue to realize," said Ikmal.
Currently, the Agribusiness Program at Unismuh Makassar is also accepting new students for the 2026/2027 academic year. Registration is open until August 15, 2026.
Ikmal said that the achievements of the alumni are proof that Agribusiness Unismuh is committed to producing outstanding, innovative, and relevant graduates for the times.
"We invite young people who want to build their future in the modern agricultural sector, business, innovation, and entrepreneurship to join the Agribusiness program at Unismuh Makassar," he said.
